We've returned to Arizona as of November 2004 to be near family and friends. We're located in Chandler, which is southwest of Phoenix, and just south of Tempe, where we used to live before Hawaii.
Previously we lived in Kamuela, Hawaii for 5 years where we moved just before Thanksgiving of 1999. As many of you know, this was planned for some time, and actually took a lot longer than we imagined. I could write a book about the adventure, which began in earnest in May 99, but I need to wait to get some "perspective" first. Imre Designs Inc. remains in Arizona, as an Arizona Corporation. We will be visiting the old stompin' grounds as needed. The WATS (toll-free) phone number remains the same and will follow me around via cell phone when I'm out of the office. Hawaii is 3 hours "earlier" on the clock than Arizona (9:00 AM in Arizona is 6:00 AM in Hawaii). There is no daylight savings time here either. As for the rest of the USA, it's either 2 or 3 hours from PST, 5 or 6 hours from EST, depending on daylight savings time. I couldn't keep track either, soooo...The best software clock I've found (totally customizable) is World Time (it's also free!) can be downloaded here.
Where is Kamuela, Hawaii, and who cares how Big the island is? Well, here's a MAP if you want to look (it's big & detailed, so it loads slowly). We currently live near Kamuela in the "corner" of the"7" of the highway 27 symbol in the upper left portion of the map about 2300' above sea level. It's called the "Big Island" for two reasons: 1. It is BIG (bigger than all of the other Hawaiian Islands combined, and still growing several square yards per day due to the lava flow from the Kilauea volcano), and 2. This way one can tell if the subject of the conversation is the State or the specific Island (since they have identical names) For more reasons see this article. This brings up another point: Waimea is actually the name of the town we live near, but since there is more than one Waimea (the more familiar one is on the Island of Oahu), Waimea on the Big Island is called Kamuela.
